If a person is thinking about a place which is just like heaven on earth then Kashmir is the perfect name stroked in his mind immediately. Set like a jeweled crown on the map of India, Kashmir is a many faceted diamond, changing character with the seasons – always extravagantly beautiful. Meaning Kashmir is as beautiful as Goddess Parvati manifest; and its owner is Lord Shiva Himself” And the Mughal Emperor exclaimed “Gar Bar-ru-e-Zamin Ast ; Hamin Ast ,Hamin Ast Hamin Asto. Meaning if there is paradise on this earth : This is it, this is it, this is it. The enchanting places which make Kashmir more beautiful are Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Sonmarg.

There is something about the pure and re-vitalizing air of Pahalgam. Untouched by urban development, Pahalgam is an angler’s paradise, promising to please even an amateur with a rainbow trout. Pahalgam is situated at an altitude of 2,133 metres amidst lofty deodars, fir, pine, junipers and many other conifers. The place gets lively during the tourist months of the summer Limited accessibility combined with limited telecom connectivity make it an ideal getaway from the grind of daily life and professional stress.

Sonmarg is absolutely true to its name, which means ‘Meadow of Gold’. The moment you enter Sonmarg, the first thing that you will notice will be the snow-covered mountain . In winters , the town is covered with snow giving it an altogether different charm of white. Thajiwas glacier is the major tourist attraction during the summer at Sonamarg. The town has become famous for the many excursion option that it offers, mainly short walks and trek routes to nearby stunning areas. The most famous trek is definitely the one that takes you to Amarnath caves. In fact Baltal which is just besides Sonmarg, is used as a base camp for starting the holy Amarnath yatra.

Last but not least we are talking about Gulmarg- A marvelous destination for honeymooners. Gulmarg is situated only 52 Kms. from Srinagar and best accessed by a Taxi. The hill tract starts only after one crosses tanmarg. Gulmarg situated at height of 2730 metres was originally called ‘Gaurimarg’ by shepherds, its present name was given in the 16th century by Sultan Yusuf Shah, who was inspired by the sight of its grassy slopes with wild flowers. The base meadow boasts of a golf course and a temple which is described by the locals as shooting locale for the song ‘jai jai shiv shankar’ in vintage 1970’s for the movie ‘Aap ki kasam’. Further down the road is the ropeway which offers ride upto Kondongri & beyond to Aparhawat Mountain top in two stages. The place is usually over crowded with holiday makers queuing up from all over.
Gulmarg is the perfect skiing destination for many adventure seekers. One can hire all the equipment needed, such as skis and sticks, snow boots, mufflers, woolen socks, jackets, goggles, etc here. The time to enjoy skiing in Gulmarg is between November to February. One remarkable fact about Gulmarg is that it is the only heli-skiing resort in Asia. Though not exactly an adventure sport, Golf is enjoyed as a relaxing activity by many. Gulmarg has the world’s highest golf course.
